Pre-Podiatry Program Overview

Why choose pre-podiatry at WSU?

  • You will be adequately prepared for post-graduate studies in a pre-medical professional field.
  • You will have resources such as faculty, staff and advisors who have years of experience in the medical field and can offer expert advice and insight.
  • You will be getting involved in a field that is exciting and can make a difference to many individuals.

What do podiatrists do?

Podiatry is a field of medicine that strives to improve the overall health and well-being of patients by focusing on preventing, diagnosing and treating conditions associated with the lower extremities. Doctors of Podiatric Medicine (DPMs) are physicians and surgeons who practice primarily on feet and ankles.

What are the graduate study requirements?

The preparatory education of most DPMs includes four years of undergraduate work, followed by four years in an accredited podiatric medical school, followed by a hospital-based residency.
