Pre-Occupational Therapy Program
Why choose pre-occupational therapy at WSU?
You will be adequately prepared for post-graduate studies in a pre-medical professional field.
You will have resources such as faculty, staff and advisors who have years of experience in the medical field and can offer expert advice and insight.
You will be getting involved in a field that is exciting and can make a difference to many individuals.
What do occupational therapists do?
Occupational therapists help people across the lifespan participate in the things they want and need to do through the therapeutic use of everyday activities (occupations). Common occupational therapy interventions include helping children with disabilities to participate fully in school and social situations, helping people recovering from injury to regain skills, and providing supports for older adults experiencing physical and cognitive changes.
Occupational therapy practitioners have a holistic perspective, in which the focus is on adapting the environment to fit the person, and the person is an integral part of the therapy team.

What should I declare as my major?
Students pursuing this program should satisfy the pre-professional requirements while completing a bachelor's degree in a major such as Athletic Therapy (BS). Students should work closely with both their pre-professional advisor and their academic major advisor. Since course loads are typically heavy, and requirements and application procedures vary among post-graduate programs, students should plan their academic strategies early and with full information.
What classes should I take now?
Research specific Occupational Therapy programs to learn more information about courses required/recommended.
Are there extracurricular opportunities available for Pre-OT students?
The Weber State University Athletic Therapy Club is a student-run organization where students who are interested in various health care professions can come together to plan and participate in events that will prepare them for the graduate school application process, as well as a career in health care.
