PROGRAM GOALS
Department of Physician Assistant Medicine 


 

Below you will find our program goals along with success indicators we use to measure progress towards achieving our outcomes. 

 

  • Goal 1: PRIME


    Admit highly-qualified students from our community, including those with diverse backgrounds, who are prepared to successfully complete the WSU PA Program. 

    Success Indicators

    • Interview pool will contain >15% of students from diverse* backgrounds by 2025.
    • Student cohorts will contain >15% of students from diverse* backgrounds by 2030.
    • Attrition rate of <5% due to academic deficiencies.

    *Diverse Backgrounds: underrepresented minorities in medicine (Black/African American, Native American, Latinx), economically disadvantaged, history of military service, first-generation college students. 

  • Goal 2: PREPARE


    Prepare graduates to practice evidence-based and cost-effective primary care and adult hospital medicine as members of interdisciplinary teams. 

    Success Indicators

    • End-of-Didactic summative assessment first-time pass rates of >90%.
    • End-of-Curriculum summative assessment first-time pass rates of >90%.
    • Scores of >3.0 (competent) on preceptor evaluations of students in Primary Care and Hospital Medicine SCPE's.
    • 100% of students will successfully complete a basic certificate in Quality Improvement and Patient Safety (QIPS) from the Institute of Healthcare Improvement (IHI). 

  • Goal 3: PASS


    Meet or exceed the U.S. national average first-time pass rate on the Physician Assistant National Certifying Examination (PANCE). 

    Success Indicators

    • First-time PANCE pass rates meet or exceed the national average.

     

     

     

     

     




     

  • Goal 4: PRACTICE


    Serve as part of the solution to the healthcare workforce shortage by increasing the number of qualified medical providers in our community.

    Success Indicators

    • 95% of students will complete primary care and internal medicine SCPE's within the Northern Utah region.
    • Following graduation, >50% of students will work in the Northern Utah region.
