Application Process
Faculty
Eligibility:
- Faculty who have previously participated in the summer research program are eligible to apply again. However, those who did not meet the participation requirements in their prior participation will receive a lower score during the application review process.
- Faculty receiving summer research funding from external sources (e.g., federal grants) are not eligible for additional summer research support through this program
Application (due March 20, 2026):
- Project description
- Mentorship experience
- Identify student researcher
- Benefits for the student(s), which could include
- Specific skills or experiences that will advance their academic and career goals
- Financial need (ex. allows student to focus on research rather than taking part-time jobs that may not contribute to their career development)
- First-generation students
- Demonstration of financial need and previous funding efforts
- Applicants will receive a higher score on their proposal if they make an effort to secure additional support from their departments or colleges.
- The score will be based on the effort to obtain support, regardless of whether the attempt is successful.
- Description of budget ($6,000 total)
- Student award must be at least $3,000
- Remainder will be research mentor compensation
- Distribution of funds between mentor and student will not affect application score.
- Funds are NOT provided for research materials. Faculty and students may submit applications to RSPG and OUR, respectively, for materials if needed.
Students
Eligibility:
- Students must be selected in advance by the faculty applicant.
- Students are encouraged to contact faculty members to inquire whether they plan to apply for program funding.
- No previous research is required. All Weber State students are invited to apply.
- Students under the age of 16 are not eligible.
- Current undergraduate students will receive higher priority than students in graduate programs.
- Students who have graduated from WSU are not eligible.
Application (due March 20, 2026)
- The student application will consist of a brief online questionnaire and a request for a personal statement.
