The Anchor Mission Approach
Weber State University is part of a growing national movement focused on Anchor Mission work. Across the country, universities, hospitals, and other major institutions recognize their deep responsibility to the communities where they are rooted. As an Anchor Mission–focused university, WSU directs its resources and partnerships toward impact purchasing, workforce development, and place-based initiatives that strengthen the communities where we are anchored. OgdenCAN is the University's place-based initiative.

By starting at the neighborhood level, OgdenCAN builds authentic relationships and creates effective models that can scale across Ogden and throughout the university’s service region—because when East Central thrives, Ogden thrives.
Working alongside neighbors, community organizations, and local Anchor Institutions, OgdenCAN invests in applied research, develops community leaders, and supports collaborative networks that advance five Community Pillars: lifelong learning, a vibrant economy, safe and strong neighborhoods, community connection, and healthy lifestyles.
