Studying Outdoor & Community Recreation Education at Weber State

Weber State’s outdoor and community recreation education degree provides students who are outdoor enthusiasts, thrill-seekers, and active individuals with the essential skills needed to work in or manage recreation agencies.

Outdoor & Community Recreation Education Highlights

Many outdoor and community recreation education classes are available for college students at Weber State’s recently renovated Center for Health Education and Wellness. This facility provides a range of recreation and wellness services, including the Weber Rocks climbing wall, Swenson Pool, and pickleball courts.

Additionally, students can enhance their skills by enrolling in Weber State’s 1-credit recreation activity courses, which offer exciting options such as stand-up paddleboarding, rock climbing, and skiing. These courses are a great way to stay active, meet new people, and learn new skills during your college experience!

Beyond the Classroom

While pursuing your degree, you'll have the opportunity to complement your classroom learning with practical experience at various internship sites, including state parks, sports clubs, and recreation centers. Engaging in these hands-on experiences will help you apply your knowledge in real-world settings and enhance your skills in your chosen field.

Degree Information

Grade Requirements

A cumulative OCRE (major) GPA of 2.75 or higher is required for this major. No more than one “D” is acceptable for OCRE-required courses. The overall university GPA must be 2.00 or higher. 

Credit Hour Requirements

Complete a minimum of 18 credit hours.
