Letters From a Birmingham Jail: A Walker Institute Talks Event and Part of the Civic Involvement Via Informed Conversations Series

Description: Join the Walker Institute of Politics & Public Service for an engaging, informed and responsible review of critical readings and foster a sense of civic engagement and responsibility. Students will read the material ahead of the meeting for a discussion of what we’ve read and learned. Then for MLK day only, we will be writing letters to any key stakeholder that may have an impact on issues the students select and care deeply about. Lunch will be provided.

Location: Wildcat Theater in the Shepherd Union
Description: This event is sponsored by Centers for Belonging & Cultural Engagement and will start with a step/stroll presentation by some members of the Divine Nine followed by a video chronicling their history. The panel will include members of each fraternity and sorority in the Divine Nine discussing why they joined, what each of their organizations represents, what they do, etc. After the panel discussion, tables will be set up in the fireplace lounge and outside the theater for each organization to talk to students and recruit for membership.
Sister Circle: Womanism and Womanist Icons

Description: Join the Women's Center for our January Sister Circle: Womanism and Womanist Icons. This is a presentation on the history and importance of womanism, womanist founders and icons and why womanism is important. We will also be doing an activity/craft centered around womanism.
