Student Organizations and Events

KWCR Wildcat Radio is the student-run radio station, broadcasting from the Shepherd Union Building. The student staff runs the day-to-day operation of this radio station with about 40 volunteer announcers who come from all areas of the university. 

You’ll get hands-on experience in sales, promotion, public speaking, business management, research, marketing, social media, content generation and more.

Students who contribute to KWCR Wildcat Radio may receive a partial or full tuition waiver. Students gain professional experience and have the option of receiving college credit by taking a related class, COMM 3891.

Lambda Pi Eta (LPH) is the National Communication Association's honor society for undergraduates majoring in Communication. 

Joining LPH gives students national recognition for their academic accomplishments and a way to document that success for employers and graduate schools.

Ogden Peak Communications is a student-run public relations and advertising group housed in Elizabeth Hall, providing students with hands-on experience in a real-world setting. 

Ogden Peak’s services include strategic public relations planning, stakeholder analysis and media relations.

You can earn academic credit in COMM 3892, get leadership experience, build your portfolio and compete in competitions. A limited number of tuition waivers are also available.

The Signpost is Weber State University's student-run news organization, publishing the news and events on campus and around Ogden twice per week. 

The Signpost is a training ground for students in various disciplines including writing, editing, photography, graphic arts, videography, business and social media. 

It is both a class (COMM 2890 or COMM 3890) and a student activity. Participation may qualify students for tuition waivers or other scholarships. 

The students' First Amendment rights are protected both by University Policy and Communication Department policy.

Student journalists, photographers, videographers, graphic artists and those in other roles follow the ethics of the Society of Professional Journalists and our own Signpost Code of Ethics.

The Social Media and Data Analytics Lab is a student-led consulting group that offers students practical experience in real-world social media roles such as social media manager, social media strategist, or social media analyst.

Services provided by The Lab include social media research, analytics, strategic planning, and content creation and distribution.

Students can earn academic credit through COMM 3894, develop leadership skills, enhance their portfolios, and participate in competitions.

Every fall and spring semester, the top speaker from each section of Principles of Public Speaking (COMM 1020) is invited to perform their speech during the Speech Showcase, sponsored by the Department of Communication.

Studio 76 is a fully operational video production studio. We produce a wide variety of shows as we hone our digital media skills. As a student-run organization, we tell stories, highlight community events and cover campus news. We aim to engage, inform and entertain our fellow Wildcats.

Weber State Debate, established in 1922, is the oldest and most competitive team at WSU. We are a co-curricular program open to all students regardless of major and we specialize in academic policy debate.

Our students learn advanced research, argumentative and rhetorical skills, and are well-prepared to attend graduate or professional school after a minimum of a two-year commitment to the team. We regularly travel to regional and national tournaments, as well as host tournaments on campus.

Student competitors are required to be full-time students in good academic standing, to abide by our honor code requirements, to attend weekly meetings and practice sessions, complete projects in a timely manner, travel to tournaments, and engage in community service hosting tournaments and professional conferences.

Participation may qualify students for tuition waivers or other scholarships.

We are a competitive speech team that participates in a variety of categories, including Prose Speaking, Dramatic Interpretation, After-Dinner Speaking and more. We mainly compete against teams based in the Pacific Northwest, but participate in all levels of competition as well.

Participating on a speech team can help develop internal reasoning, external discussion and persuasion skills. Almost any career or educational path will benefit from participating on a speech team.
