Department of Child and Family Studies

The Department of Child and Family Studies offers the tools you need for a successful career working with children and families. Along with a curriculum geared toward your career goals, we have faculty with diverse experiences and interests, and friendly and supportive staff.

During COVID-19, department main office (ED 204) will be open Monday through Thursday 7:30-11:30 a.m. for in-person needs.  Administrative staff will be available virtually M-F 7:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. (with time for lunch).  All student advising in Fall 2020 will be online (Advising). 

Early Childhood Education

Receive early childhood teacher training in a nationally accredited program. We offer an in-person and 100% online A.A.S. degree in Early Childhood, a B.S. degree in Early Childhood, a B.S. degree in Early Childhood Education, along with a minor in Child Development.

Family Studies

Our Family Studies program has led the way for developing national standards for family life educators. With a B.S. degree in Family Studies or an MEd degree in Family Life Education, you will be eligible to apply for national certification as a provisional Certified Family Life Educator (CFLE).

Laboratory Early Learning Programs

The Melba S. Lehner Children's School and the WSU Charter Academy provide quality care and education for young children infancy through kindergarten age. These two program serve as an on-campus field experience site and research lab for WSU students and faculty.
