Emerging Leaders Scholarship Program

emerging leadersIn order to be an effective leader, one must first be able to articulate who they are.

The Emerging Leaders Program at Weber State University is a year long program designed to help students do just that. Based on the concept that self knowledge leads to self leadership, and in turn, leadership of others, participants in the Emerging Leaders Program engage in an experiential, hands-on approach over the course of the year to develop by doing rather than being lectured to. Sessions revolve around small and large group discussions, team building activities, community service, StrengthsQuest development, and problem solving.

What will I learn in this program?

Emerging Leaders is a self discovery program designed to help you better know yourself and how you effectively lead others. Participants learn not only what makes them a success, but also what motivates them.

How much is the Scholarship?

Amounts are determined each year based on the number of applicants and available awards. Generally, awards are between $2,200 and $1,000 for the year.

How do I become an Emerging Leader?

Simple, just complete the emerging leaders application and return it to the Department of Student Involvement & Leadership by March 17 to be considered for the next academic year’s awards.

Meet Your Mentors

GioGiovanni

Hey, everyone! I am Giovanni Frias, but I go by Gio. I am currently a sophomore and planning on getting my Bachelors in Automotive Technology with a minor in Computer Science. I was a part of Emerging Leaders my freshman year, and I loved it! Being involved is the best! I learned so much and met so many people from being involved. I love camping and cars; I especially love Japanese cars like Honda and Toyota, 4-wheelers, and sports. Join my volleyball and soccer team here on campus! It’s a great way to get distracted from homework stress, and you get to meet so many people! I am super excited for this year and can’t wait to meet you! It’s going to be a fun year full of great memories! I want to share this quote with you, “A lot of people have gone further than they thought they could because someone else thought they could.” -Unknown

kateKatee

Hey, guys! My name is Katee, but I love it when people call me Kate (makes me feel older and smarter. Idk, it’s a thing)! I had such a great time being an Emerging Leader my freshman year that I came back to be a mentor, and it’s been even better!! I am planning on going into nursing- but that could change in about a week. I am a firm believer in the power of chips and salsa. I am an expert in all things; especially dogs, basketball, red pandas, and shopping. My one dying wish would be to ride in a hot air balloon over a wildlife park. I love to serve those around me and getting involved on and off campus. There are so many AMAZING opportunities at Weber State University that I hope to get you all acquainted with to help your future and so you can help others. I love you, awesome nerds. ;) This year is going to rock your socks!

PatriciaPatricia

Hey pals, my name is Patricia. Let me just say I am super excited to be your mentor this year! I myself am a recent Emerging Leader alumni. My major is criminal justice, with the hopes (if I pass the physical test) of going into a law enforcement career. I have yet to decide my minor, mostly because figuring out my major took me a minute. I'm a bit of a travel junkie; I love traveling to different states and countries! My goal is to one day visit China and see a panda in person. When I’m not doing homework, I love to relax and watch movies (anything but horror). I really love my time here at Weber, and I love being involved on campus! This year is gonna be a blast!! I can't wait to see all of you blossom into the natural leaders you were destined to be!(:
