II. POLICY

A. President

The Utah State Board of Higher Education, after consulting with the Board of Trustees, shall appoint and hire a president who serves at the pleasure of the Board. The president shall serve as their executive officer and shall be the official medium of communication between the Board of Higher Education and Board of Trustees, the University faculty and the students.

The president, with the assistance of the Board of Trustees, is responsible for (1) the property, both personal and real; and (2) the education, safety and welfare, for the good of education in the state and his/her respective institution, of all persons admitted and enrolled, employed or otherwise entering its premises, under such rules and regulations as the institution shall establish.

B. Vice President

The president may appoint a provost and one or more vice presidents, with the approval of the Board of Trustees, who shall serve at the pleasure of the president. The provost and vice president(s) shall perform such duties as may be assigned by the president.

C. Deans of Colleges

In each college there shall be a dean appointed by the president with the approval of the Board of Trustees. The dean shall serve at the pleasure of the president and shall be the executive officer of that college.

D. Other General Administrative Officers

The president shall appoint, with the approval of the Board of Trustees, other administrative officers as needed who shall serve at the pleasure of the president through the appropriate vice president and other appropriate supervisory personnel.

E. Department Chairs

Each academic department shall be administered by a department chair appointed by the president, with the approval of the Board of Trustees. The department chair shall be the administrator of the academic unit and shall be responsible directly to the dean of the college to which the department is assigned.
