Excellence in Community Engagement recognizes graduates who promote community engagement while maintaining academic excellence.
Honorees will be awarded a certificate and community engagement honor cord to be worn at graduation. Additionally, the Excellence in Community Engagement recognition will be noted on the students' transcripts and diplomas.
CriteriaGraduating senior in a bachelor's degree program;
Grade-point average of 3.5 or higher at the time of graduation application;
Contribution of a minimum 300 hours of service, democratic engagement, or community research in a non-profit community organization(s) during college career. (Note: Qualifying education institutions must be Title I)
The CCEL will send each graduating senior with a GPA of 3.5 or higher who has registered for graduation by the published university deadline a letter inviting them to apply for the Excellence in Community Engagement recognition.Invited graduating seniors will complete the online Excellence in Community Engagement Application.
If the applicant's service, democratic engagement, and/or community research hours are not already documented in the CCEL, she/he is responsible for submitting documentation of the completed hours. Documentation of hours must include copies of time logs or letters of verification that are signed by the supervisor at the organization(s) where the applicant has been engaged in the last three years.
