Information Technology Infrastructure Library (ITIL)

In 2006, the WSU IT Division began to explore the Information Technology Infrastructure Library (ITIL) approach to IT Service Management.  A number of WSU IT staff attended training and certified at the foundation level.  Additional training courses were identified and several staff went on to achieve certification at the practitioner level in 2007.  ITIL goals and objectives were added to the IT Plan and implementation steps were identified as reflected in this section of the IT Division web site.

ITIL has been evolving since the 1980's and has become the worldwide de facto standard for IT Service Management.  It helps align IT services with institutional goals, improves the quality of IT services and, in the long-term, helps to reduce and control costs.  It does this with a set of standard:

  • definitions (including vocabulary)
  • disciplines and associated processes
  • models and relationships

The pages in this section will reflect our progress in adapting ITIL processes and procedures for the benefit of Weber State University students, faculty and staff.
