Weber State celebrates 30 years of storytelling at the Annual Storytelling Festival
OGDEN, Utah — Weber State University will host the 30th Annual Storytelling Festival March 9–12, celebrating three decades of live storytelling as an art form, an educational practice, and a community tradition.
This year’s festival features five nationally and internationally recognized storytellers — Adam Booth, Valentina Ortiz, Kim Weitkamp, Antonio Rocha, and festival fellow Sam Payne — along with 12 professional storytellers from the Intermountain West and more than 80 youth storytellers.
Festival events include performances, school programs, and workshops for audiences of all ages.
“The Weber Storytelling Festival reflects who we are at Weber State — deeply connected to our community and committed to meaningful, human-centered education,” said Vincent Bates, Storytelling Festival Committee chair. “For 30 years, storytelling has brought people together across generations. This anniversary year invites everyone to experience that power, again or for the first time.”
In addition to the main festival, Weber State will expand storytelling programming throughout the year in celebration of its 30th anniversary. Events will be held in local schools, libraries, community spaces, and across university campuses.
All Storytelling Festival events are free, with the exception of the annual fundraising dinner on March 10.
This anniversary comes on the heels of another milestone: the recent reopening of the renovated David O. McKay Education Building, which serves as the home for the Jerry & Vickie Moyes School of Education, the festival’s long-standing sponsor.
Other generous festival support comes from Boyd K. and Donna S. Packer Center for Family and Community Education, along with partners throughout Northern Utah.
Event schedules and updates are available on the Storytelling Festival website.
