WSU partnership brings e-bike savings to northern Utah residents
OGDEN, Utah — Commuters across five northern Utah counties can receive up to $800 off an electric bike this week.
Weber State University’s Sustainability Practices and Research Center, or SPARC, is partnering with the Utah Department of Environmental Quality to offer $400 to $800 e-bike vouchers from Sept. 21–25.
Residents 18 years or older in Weber, Davis, Salt Lake, Tooele, and Utah counties may qualify. Applicants can check eligibility and begin the application process on the e-bike program website.
"E-bikes are an excellent alternative to commuting by car,” said Joshua Taylor, SPARC community outreach coordinator. “They reduce emissions and improve air quality. Students and residents have let us know they hope to use these vouchers to gain access to cleaner, healthier, more affordable transportation.”
There are 50 vouchers available through the e-bike program. Eligible applicants will be selected by lottery and notified after Sept. 25.
“Partnering with Weber State University allows us to directly involve our local communities across northern Utah to attain our air quality goals,” said Bryce Bird, Utah Division of Air Quality director. “By expanding access to e-bikes through federal Climate Pollution Reduction Grant funding, we are helping residents replace gas-powered car trips with clean, reliable transportation alternatives.”
Weber State is known for long-term, cost-cutting sustainability solutions. Over the past 20 years, the university has reduced its greenhouse gas emissions by more than half, saving over $30 million in utility costs. WSU is on track to be carbon neutral by 2040, a decade ahead of the original commitment made in 2007.
The university also helps show what’s possible on a residential level. In spring 2026, SPARC opened the Weber State Sustainability Home on Quincy Avenue in Ogden, providing a place for community members to enjoy workshops, one-on-one energy consultations, and tour a fully net-zero home.
SPARC also offers year-round community support and other discounted — or often free — resources to help empower and educate others about how to build a healthier, more resilient future.

Once an applicant is approved for an e-bike voucher, they will have four weeks to visit a qualifying store to make their purchase. Visit the e-bike program website for a list of bike stores and other frequently asked questions.
