The Good Life: Italy

Program Details

Through on-site experiences in Naples, Salerno, and Ischia, students will explore the essential elements of the good life within the rich historical, cultural, and philosophical traditions of southern Italy. By engaging with ancient and medieval settings, students will discover how the places, people, and ideas of the past shaped enduring perspectives on what it means to live well. These experiences will bring philosophical texts to life, connecting the study of the good life to the historical contexts in which these influential works were created.

Selection Criteria:

  • Open to all majors (especially relevant to Philosophy, Political Science, History).
  • No prerequisites required.

Italy (Naples, Salerno, and Ischia)

Cost

Cost: $4,300 (Airfare not included)

Deposit: $500 Deposit is due 72 hours after registration. If not paid in that timeframe, you may be dropped from your trip.

Includes: insurance, tuition, room and board, local transportation abroad, excursions, and some meals.

NOT included: airfare, visa fees, passport, incidentals, excess baggage costs, any unscheduled travel, and some meals.

5/27 Thursday-Positano and Amalfi by boat from Salerno

5/28 Friday-Food visit, Afternoon Pompeii guided tour, Transfer to Ischia (afternoon ferry)

5/29 Saturday-Poseidon Thermal Park, Welcome dinner

5/30 Sunday-Cooking class

5/31 Monday-Yoga and meditation session, Aphrodite Thermal Park with free time in Sant’Angelo

6/1 Tuesday-Free day: refocus, relax, rejuvenate

6/2 Wednesday-Capri day trip

6/3 Thursday-Guided tour of Castle of Aragon, Afternoon in Procida

6/4 Friday-Hiking and hot springs

6/5 Saturday-Evening bus tour of Ischia: Discovering local traditions in Ischia; Ceramics, Wine, Food and Music, Group dinner in local restaurant

6/6 Sunday-Boat tour of Ischia,Farewell dinner

6/7 Monday-Check out of hotel in Ischia, Transfer to Naples, Check into hotel

6/8 Tuesday-Program concludes

Academic Courses

Students who participate in this study abroad program will be able to register for up to three (3) semester credits through Weber State University.

Trip Cancellations

If Weber State cancels a trip for any reason, all participants will be refunded 100% of funds paid to the school. If a participant withdraws from the program for any reason, they are subject to the refund policy found on the first page of the application.  Deposits are always non-refundable, unless the program is canceled by Weber State.  No refunds will be issued 30 days prior to program start date.
