Vaccines

Vaccines offer safe and effective protection from preventable diseases and outbreaks. They protect both the people who get them and the community around them. While Weber State does not have an institution-wide vaccination policy, we strongly encourage all students to remain up-to-date on adult immunization recommendations, as recommended by the American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP) and the guidance of your physician. For most students, this includes:

  • Routine childhood immunizations (including the MMR) Annual Influenza
  • Annual COVID-19
  • Meningococcal Vaccine (MenB)
  • Tdap (Tetanus, diphtheria and pertussis) booster (10 years)

In addition, students living in on-campus housing should consider additional protection against meningitis from the Meningococcal conjugate vaccine (MCV4).

 ‌Immunizations for Academic Programs

Several programs within individual colleges may have required immunizations for students enrolled in their programs. These requirements, and any exemptions to them, are determined by each college and will be outlined in their student handbook. In addition, some immunizations may be prerequisites for clinical rotations and are determined by the individual healthcare organization.

 ‌Proof of Vaccination

Most healthcare providers in the state of Utah are connected to the Utah Statewide Immunization Information System (USIIS). Obtaining records reported to USIIS is quick and easy using the Docket app or directly through USIIS.

If your provider did not report your vaccines to USIIS, or your vaccines were received outside of the state of Utah, you will need to request a copy of your records from their office.

If you received a flu shot on campus from 2023 on, please reach out to the Weber-Morgan Health Department at 801-399-7250 for verification. Student Health and Wellness does not maintain these records and cannot provide verification.

If you are unable to obtain proof of prior vaccination, you may be asked to obtain a titer test. A titer can show whether or not you have antibodies to a disease, which may be from vaccination or natural infection.Titer testing for Hepatitis B, MMR and Varicella is covered for students at Ogden Clinic

Where Can I Get Vaccinated?

Vaccines are available at many locations in the community. Most insurance plans cover vaccinations at 100%, so long as you get it from a covered clinic or pharmacy. Check with your insurance before you go.

Vaccines are not covered by the university at Ogden Clinic, though you can have them bill your insurance, if applicable.

Flu Shots are available to currently enrolled students, free of charge, in October. Please check back for dates.

Paying out of pocket? Costs can vary from location to location. It pays to call around and find the best possible price. Local health departments may also have programs for uninsured individuals to make vaccinations more affordable.

International Students have limited coverage for vaccinations through your Cigna insurance plan. If possible, we advise you to get any necessary vaccines prior to leaving your country of origin as this is probably the most cost-effective option for you. If this is not possible, please check your insurance policy for coverage limits and eligible locations, or reach out to the International Student and Scholar Center for guidance.

Be advised that Cigna insurance plans are not accepted by local health departments, such as the Weber-Morgan or Davis County Health Departments.
