Asalamu Alaykum! My name is Maryan Shale, and I am Somali Bantu. I was born in Kenya but raised in San Diego , California and have now lived in Salt Lake City for over 10 years. I pursued my academic journey at the University of Utah, where I earned a Bachelor's degree in Health Policy with minors in Sociology and Leadership. During my time at the University of Utah, I was involved in various student roles like president of Black Student Union, Residence Hall Association advocacy board director, and vice president of student relations with ASUU. These experiences during my undergrad are why I am passionate about helping students and making sure they feel a sense of community and belonging. I am now pursuing a Masters in Public Health from Baylor University. 

Outside of work, I like to hang out with my family, watch Korean Dramas, and travel to different cities or countries to try new foods and experience different cultures. 

Yáʼátʼééh (Hello)! My name is Amanda Jones, and I am Diné (Navajo). I was born in Logan, Utah, and raised by my incredible mother who instilled in me the values I carry today. I am a proud graduate of Weber State University, where I earned my Bachelor's degree in Social Work. During my time at Weber State, I had the honor of serving as a student leader in both the Native American Student Association and the WSUSA Senate. These experiences deepened my commitment to advocating for everyone.

Outside of work, I love getting creative with crafts like sewing and beading, it's how I stay grounded and connected to culture. I also enjoy exploring music across all genres and unwinding with a good movie as much as I can.

I’m deeply passionate about student success, not just during college, but well beyond graduation. Please don’t hesitate to reach out; I’m always happy to help and support however I can.

I am a first-generation college student and professional. I started my academic journey at a community college named Georgia Highlands College.

As a first-generation college graduate, who worked my way through college and received Pell, I understand the difficulties that can come from being a first-generation student. My lived experiences, as well as the time that I have been able to work with students, informs my passion for working to help students navigate not just college, but their lives while they are in school. While my title is Student Engagement Program Manager, my core identity is that of a teacher. I bring to my work a philosophy that we are all lifelong learners as well as lifelong teachers. I embrace each day as an opportunity to cultivate this within myself and my students.

As my students know, outside of work, I have a love for heavy metal music, video games, and movies.

Queridos estudiantes es para mi honor ayudarles! It is a pleasure to help you. My name is Monica Rodriguez. I was born and raised in Bogota, Colombia. I love my dogs and spend good time at night walking with them. We always find adventures. During college time I was involved in many activities such as creating programming for the KWCR Radio Station and/or helping youth in poverty to overcome homelessness. I am also a writer. I am aco-author of a research book published by OTI and UNESCO “De la limosna al compromiso”. I am the oldest in my family . I am very proud of my mom who is a single parent that raised 3 strong children to help improve their lives so we can  help to improve the lives of others.

A little about me: I was born and raised in Germany while my dad served in the U.S. military.

Fast forward to today—I’m happily married, a proud mom of seven, and a grandma to two beautiful grandbabies.

Outside of work, you’ll usually find me cheering on my kids at their various sporting events (yes, I’m that mom in the stands—loud and proud!).

What excites me most in my professional role is the opportunity to support student success. I’m passionate about creating spaces where students feel seen, connected, and empowered—whether through engagement opportunities, cultural programming, or academic success initiatives.

I’m truly grateful to continue working alongside our Student Engagement and Success team to help every WSU student realize their unique potential and grow into confident, capable, and exemplary leaders.

Hey what’s up y'all! My name is Demitrius Sanders and I’m from Ogden Utah. 
 I graduated with my Bachelors from Weber State University in 2021 and I'm currently pursuing my Master’s in Education, which I will earn in Fall 2025. I’m passionate about helping students succeed and enjoy their journey in college.
