Admission and Selection

Admission to the Cardiac Specialist program requires:

  • Graduate of a regionally accredited baccalaureate academic program in health science preferred (includes, but not limited to, cardiovascular technology, ultrasound, radiologic technology, respiratory therapy, or nursing).  However, other baccalaureate programs will also be considered.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.

International applicants have additional requirements.  Before applying to the program, please email for advisement.

*If you do not have your bachelor's degree and are looking to complete your degree, please call the School of Radiologic Sciences at 801.626.6057 for opportunities to complete your degree.

Clinical Site Requirements

It is also the student's responsibility to identify a clinical site.  The Cardiac Specialist program will work closely with the student to secure a clinical-practice site where they will complete the programs clinical requirements.

Qualified students will receive a conditional acceptance, pending the completion of a signed agreement form from a clinical-practice site.  Upon receipt of the agreement form, a formal affiliation agreement between the health care facility and Weber State University may be processed at sites where one has not been previously established.  Approval processes can be lengthy, so candidates are encouraged to begin this process early.

Students are required to document their performance of cardiac cath lab procedures according to the criteria defined by the Cardiac Specialist program.  The programs clinical requirements meet and exceed those defined by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologist (ARRT) and/or Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI).

  • Due to California state law, we cannot accept Cardiac Specialist applicants who have clinical sites in California.
