Ian Wilkinson earned his B.S. in Chemistry from The College of William & Mary. His undergraduate research focused on the development and characterization of ligands and electrocatalysts for solar-powered hydrogen fuel production. He then received his M.Eng. in Nuclear Engineering from Colorado School of Mines, centering his research there on computational neutronics, high-performance computing, and machine learning techniques as applied to various challenges in the nuclear space.
 

Subsequently, he joined Xcel Energy to support the design of fuel loading patterns for the Prairie Island Nuclear Generating Plant in Minnesota. He has additional experience in government and at the James Martin Center for Nonproliferation Studies.


Ian joined WSU’s faculty as an Instructor of Energy Engineering in 2026. In his free time, he enjoys camping, hiking, traveling, writing, and spending time with friends, family, and his cat, Zeus.
