Cardiac Specialist Emphasis

The Cardiac Specialist emphasis is not accepting applications for fall 2026 enrollment. Questions can be directed to msrs@weber.edu.

The Master of Science in Radiologic Sciences (MSRS) with an emphasis in Cardiac Specialist aims to equip students with the knowledge and clinical skills necessary for a career in the cardiac catheterization lab. As an invasive cardiovascular technology student, you will develop analytical thinking skills and research capability while studying various disciplines, including coronary and structural heart disease, multimodality cardiac imaging, and interventional cardiac catheterization.

You will learn alongside cardiologists while assisting with cath lab procedures, including angiography, hemodynamic assessment, coronary stenting, and valve implantation.

Upon completing the program, you will meet the qualification criteria defined by Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI) for the Registered Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist (RCIS) exam and/or the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) for the Cardiac-Interventional Radiography (CI) credential.

Curriculum

The Cardiac Specialist emphasis offers advanced courses in cardiovascular sciences, including coronary and structural heart disease, cardiovascular imaging, interventional cardiac catheterization, and research. You must complete 59 credit hours of coursework, including clinical preceptorship, to graduate.

All courses are taught in a hybrid format, which combines face-to-face, virtual, and online learning. You must attend class on the WSU Ogden campus twice a semester and two additional virtual learning sessions on Zoom.

Grad Maps provide a semester-by-semester plan for completing all the required classes to earn your degree. Please contact our enrollment director for your Grad Map.
