Spend a Day in the Life of an MHA Student in Geneva, Switzerland
Study Abroad: Zoë Taylor
Quality healthcare sometimes requires a brand new perspective. That’s why Weber State Master of Health Administration students have the opportunity to visit the global healthcare hub, Geneva, Switzerland, each year.
During the most recent trip, students were immersed in the vibrant environment of some of the world’s most notable healthcare organizations, such as the International Red Cross and the World Health Organization.
“We typically spent this time attending presentations, touring labs, and learning about the different healthcare organizations,” said Zoë Taylor, a full-time MHA student.
During her time in Switzerland, Taylor visited other organizations like Geneva University Hospital, Médecins Sans Frontiéres (Doctors Without Borders), the United Nations, the World Bank, and more. Visiting these leading healthcare facilities is a once-in-a-lifetime experience for students.
In the afternoon, the students were allowed free time to explore the beautiful and historical land of Switzerland.
“I got to research a little bit about Geneva, so that on our sightseeing dates I knew where I wanted to go, what I wanted to see, and what was appropriate in Swiss culture,” she said.
Riding a train through the rolling green hills of the Swiss farmlands was one of the most notable sightseeing opportunities during Taylor’s stay. Additionally, students got to visit a cheese factory in Gruyère, Switzerland; a Swiss chocolate factory; and a real castle.
Chocolate, cheese, and castles aside, the opportunities provided to Taylor through the MHA study abroad program will remain with her, both personally and professionally.
“So many entities are able to have their headquarters in Switzerland, and their mission of just supporting world health is really inspiring,” Taylor said. “It was cool because it really felt like a melting pot, and I got to see so many different aspects of the healthcare system in one spot.”
