Undergraduate Mentors

Upper-level earth and environmental science students can act as mentors for parts of this project. We will need students to help conduct classroom visits, mentor students in our community engaged learning classes, and help teach the summer bridge and research programs. Students will be paid an hourly salary to help with various projects.
Email Liz Balgord or Carie Frantz if you’d like to get involved.

WSU Undergraduate Mentors

James Henderson

James Henderson is an undergraduate geology major in the Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences at Weber State University. He spent most of his twenties traveling across various locations on three continents, during which time he discovered his interest in the earth sciences. James is an active member of the Geology Club, organizing activities ranging from local geology hikes to making crystals in the lab. He has just begun an independent research project with Dr. Balgord working on student outreach. He is acting as a teaching assistant in the NUAMES GEO 1110 Physical Geology class this semester.

Nicole Kingsley

Nicole Kingsley is a junior at Weber State University and has started her undergraduate research in student outreach. Growing up, Nicole used to collect rocks, not knowing what made them so intriguing. Now as an earth and environmental sciences major, she is feeding off of that intrigue to obtain the knowledge needed to become the geologist she never knew she’d grow up to be.  Working closely with Dr. Balgord, she is currently a teacher’s aide for a concurrent enrollment course at Weber State and will be assisting with the Summer Bridge program this summer helping students gain a better understanding of the Geosciences.

Analeah Vaughn

Analeah Vaughn is an undergraduate student within the Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences pursuing a degree in geology with a geography minor. She has always had a love of rocks and the stories that they hold. She is currently involved with undergraduate research with Dr. Balgord, traveling to the Cordillera Blanca in Peru last summer. She hopes to be involved with research in her future career. Analeah is excited to be a part of the Summer Bridge Program and helping students get excited about science!
