Bachelor of Science in Exercise & Sport Science

Weber State’s exercise and sport science program offers active, health-conscious students the skills needed to help others maintain and enhance their fitness and well-being. Upon graduation, you’ll qualify for national certifications including, but not limited to, ACE, ACSM, NSCA and NASM.

What You'll Learn

You will learn how to help people maintain and enhance their well-being through our fitness professional or exercise science emphasis. Graduates qualify for several different national certifications including, but not limited to: ACE, ACSM, NSCA and NASM.

Fitness Professional

In this emphasis, you’ll learn about anatomy and physiology, fitness assessment, exercise programming and implementation, exercise leadership and client education, strength and conditioning and nutrition, while developing skills in activities such as weight lifting, aerobic activities and more. Courses also cover topics like health and nutrition education and kinesiology.

Exercise Science

In this emphasis, you’ll learn how exercise and sports impact your health. Courses cover anatomy and physiology, structural kinesiology, biomechanics and clinical exercise physiology. Exercise science explores the science behind fitness, exercise metabolism and overall wellness.

You’ll also prepare for graduate programs like Physical Therapy (PT), Occupational Therapy (OT), Physician Assistant (PA), dental, medical optometry biomechanics, exercise physiology and strength and conditioning.

Degree Information

Cooperative Work Experience

All exercise and sport science majors gain practical experience in their field by completing 5 credit hours of cooperative work experience (internships). Your internship experience makes you more appealing to employers, and you can space your credits out during your degree program as you see fit.

Requirements

  • A GPA of 2.75 or higher in all courses required for this major. The overall GPA must be 2.00 or better. No more than one “D” is acceptable.
  • A total of 120 credit hours is required for graduation; a total of 63 credit hours for this major. Ten to 11 credit hours of required support courses may be used as general education credit. A total of 40 upper division credit hours is required for graduation with 36-38 upper division hours possible within the required courses for this major.
