Welcome to the Computer Literacy Center!
Welcome to the Weber State University Computer Literacy Center (CLC)! As a leader in digital literacy for 6 years, we serve our campus and the surrounding community. At the CLC, we are dedicated to advancing computer literacy through producing comprehensive training and development tutorials including computer fundamentals, productivity applications, and cybersecurity basics. Our student digital media specialists have been instrumental in this journey, creating over 200 short-form instructional videos that have significantly enhanced the educational experience for countless learners.
The CLC seeks to educate students, faculty, and community members on the core programs in the Microsoft and Google suites so they’re better prepared to perform the various technological tasks that are required of them in their everyday lives, whether it be in the classroom, at work, or at home. To do this, the CLC creates online short-courses made up of short instructional videos about how to use different facets of programs such as Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, as well as the Google equivalents of these programs. These courses range from beginner level to advanced user level to ensure that they’re accessible and useful to everyone that accesses them.

CLC Testimonials
I assigned the Excel course to my upper-division Investigative Journalism class and the Word course to my 1000-level Writing for Workplace Communication class. I like these classes because students can do the whole thing or just a portion, depending on what they need. I learned some tricks from both, and I am experienced in both programs. Just goes to show you can teach an old professor new tricks.

I used the CLC classes to help me prepare for the WEB 1501, 1502, and 1503 exams. These courses are free, and learning is completely up to the student. You don't have to complete the whole course and I only went through the sections I wanted to learn. I used them mostly as a refresher and to make sure I was prepared for the exams. I have used the knowledge from these courses in my other classes and at work. They were super helpful plus they are free, so there's no reason not to check them out!

I took the R course so that I could learn more about Data science and really liked the way it was taught. Now, I work for the CLC making new modules and I continue taking the courses to hone my skills in the Microsoft and Google Suites. These courses are great because they are free for students, you can work at your own pace, and they teach you the skills you need in a beginner-friendly way.
