Latin American Studies at WSU

What is the Latin American Studies Minor?

Weber State University’s Latin American Studies Minor offers students a unique opportunity to combine the skills and competencies that they are developing in multiple disciplines and to apply them to the study of a wide array of topics related to Latin America and to Spanish-speaking peoples around the world (the Global Hispanophone). The minor in Latin American Studies gives students the opportunity to take courses in the departments of World Languages & Cultures, History, Visual Art & Design, Geography, Political Science, Philosophy, Sociology, Anthropology, Child and Family Studies, and English, with the goal of developing a comprehensive and interdisciplinary understanding of the region.

What Can I Do with a Latin American Studies Minor?

The knowledge that Latin American Studies minors acquire is easily translatable to multiple industry sectors and creates pathways to a wide range of graduate programs. This knowledge tends to be highly valued by employers in such fields as social work, life sciences and medicine, law, the non-profit sector, institutions of higher education, and engineering, among others. The intercultural fluency that our students attain, combined with the research, analytical, and interpretative skills that they cultivate and refine, prepare them for graduate programs in such disciplines as Hispanic Studies, History, Art History, Sociology, Education, Communications, Law, Public Health, Business, and Social Work.
