Student Stability

The Basic Needs Center's Student Stability program helps students navigate unexpected circumstances that may disrupt their ability to stay enrolled and make progress toward graduation. We provide individualized support, resource navigation, and connections to campus and community services for students experiencing financial hardship, housing instability, food insecurity, or other basic-needs challenges.

We also provide specialized support for students transitioning from foster care or juvenile justice, students with refugee backgrounds, and students experiencing homelessness. When appropriate, we help students identify available financial resources, including emergency funding and other forms of assistance.

FOSTER CARE

Students who have experienced foster care can receive individualized support as they transition to and continue at Weber State. The Student Stability team helps students navigate campus and community resources, identify available funding opportunities, and connect with services that support their academic and personal success.

Eligible students may also apply for scholarship funding specifically designated for students who have experienced foster care. Documentation of state custody prior to age 18 may be required to determine eligibility.

JUVENILE JUSTICE

Students who have been involved with the juvenile justice system can receive individualized support as they transition to Weber State. We help students navigate the admissions and FAFSA processes, connect with academic advising and other campus resources, and identify additional services or funding that may support their success.

We also work with Juvenile Justice and Youth Services (JJYS) and other community partners to support students referred to Weber State.

REFUGEE STUDENTS

Students from refugee backgrounds can receive individualized support as they begin and continue their education at Weber State. We help students navigate admissions and FAFSA, connect with academic advising and other campus resources, and identify financial and community resources that may support their educational goals.

We also partner with local organizations that serve refugee and New American communities to help students access additional support when needed.

HOUSING INSTABILITY & HOMELESSNESS

Students experiencing homelessness or housing instability can receive support identifying resources that may help them find or maintain safe, stable housing while continuing their education. This may include connections to campus resources, community organizations, and available financial assistance.

We support current Weber State students as well as students referred by community agencies, nonprofit organizations, and schools as they transition to the university.

Programming

Student Stability offers programs and activities designed to help students build connections, strengthen their support networks, and learn about resources that can support their success at Weber State. Additionally, engagement events at the Student Success Center provide opportunities to meet other students, develop relationships, strengthen a sense of belonging, and expand their campus network.

Internship Opportunities

Students interested in social work or related fields may have opportunities to gain hands-on experience supporting Student Stability programs and services.

The Student Stability team is located in the Student Services Center, Room 160G. Students are welcome to connect with our team for individualized support, resource navigation, and assistance identifying campus and community resources that may help address basic needs or other barriers to continuing their education.
