Advance Top-Tier Health Professions Programs
Through Naming Opportunities
The naming of an academic department at Weber State University is an opportunity for a donor to establish an everlasting legacy in an area they care deeply about, while giving that program the financial support to improve, advance and grow in perpetuity. It is a relationship that benefits both parties, and the biggest beneficiaries of all are WSU students.
The Dr. Ezekiel R. Dumke College of Health Professions has naming opportunities in two high-priority areas.
DEPARTMENT OF MEDICAL LABORATORY SCIENCES
The naming of Medical Laboratory Sciences would add prestige to a nationally recognized department that is more than 50 years old and enrolls students across the country.
With 350-plus students and 200 active clinical affiliations, the MLS department at WSU is one of the largest programs in the nation. Our department is also a leader in remote/online learning, with more than 20 years of experience and degree offerings at all levels of the laboratory profession.
Funding from a naming endowment would allow us to:
- Add evening laboratory sections for hybrid students who work in a clinical site during the day and attend evening physical laboratories.
- Develop and support new approaches to MLS education, such as live tele-teach sessions for students unable to train in specialized laboratory areas.
- Plan the development of remote laboratory spaces and programs to serve in-person training across a greater geographical area of Utah.
- Develop new degree offerings like a 4+1 bachelor’s program to allow students to quickly gain MLS certification, helping meet local and national demand for laboratory scientists.
The MLS department at WSU uses extensive simulated clinical experiences in student training because healthcare worker shortages make it difficult to support clinical rotations for students. There is a large cost associated with simulating state-of-the-art technology and instrumentation in student laboratories — a department naming would go a long way in supporting these efforts.
By improving and expanding our laboratory simulation space, we can increase our enrollment and graduate more students to meet the regional, state, and national demand for medical laboratory scientists.

SCHOOL OF RADIOLOGIC SCIENCES
In 2026, we will celebrate 60 years of educating professionals within the radiologic sciences — and the need for those professionals continues to grow. In response, we have expanded programs, increased enrollment by over 25% since 2020, and engaged with community partners to enhance and acquire equipment and technology.
Funding from a naming endowment would enhance student learning, workforce readiness, and healthcare equity across Utah by allowing us to:
- Upgrade radiography and medical imaging labs by investing in modern, industry-standard medical imaging equipment and technology. Training on equipment that mirrors what they’ll encounter in clinical settings will prepare students for professional success and improve patient care outcomes.
- Enhance teaching tools with advanced simulation, interactive gaming, and virtual reality by acquiring high-fidelity simulation mannequins, immersive VR environments, and interactive learning software that provide dynamic, hands-on learning experiences that elevate student engagement and competency.
- Expand curriculum and program access across Utah. Our hybrid/outreach programs reach underserved and rural communities. Continued expansion will help us alleviate critical workforce shortages and create localized education pipelines.
These investments would produce highly skilled graduates, address healthcare staffing gaps across Utah, improve community health outcomes, and establish a sustainable, statewide educational infrastructure that supports future generations of radiologic professionals.
