- Rising Star New Professional Academic Advisor Award
Rising Star New Professional Academic Advisor Award
The Rising Star New Professional Academic Advisor Award recognizes individuals new to academic advising whose primary role at Weber State University is the direct delivery of advising services to students at the undergraduate or graduate level.
Eligibility Requirements
- Any individual serving as a professional academic advisor at Weber State University with less than three years of professional academic advising experience based on calendar year calculated from the time the nomination is due.
- Nominees must spend at least 50% of their time on direct delivery of advising to students.
Criteria
Relational Skills
Describe how the nominee builds and maintains effective relationships.
Responses may include examples of how the nominee:
- Demonstrates a caring, helpful attitude toward students, faculty, and staff.
- Conducts proactive outreach to students to build relationships and prevent issues before they arise.
Institutional Knowledge & Student Success
Describe how the nominee applies their knowledge of university policies, curriculum, and resources to monitor student’s progress and foster student success.
Responses may include examples of how the nominee:
- Communicates institutional policies, procedures, and the specific curriculum within their area of responsibility.
- Monitors student progress toward academic and career goals.
- Makes appropriate and timely referrals to campus departments and resources.
Professionalism & Development
Describe the nominee’s commitment to professional growth and their contributions to advancing the advising profession through leadership, scholarship, or mentorship.
Responses may include examples of how the nominee:
- Aligns their advising practice with professional standards, such as the NACADA Core Values and Core Competencies.
- Participates in activities that support their continued growth and development in advising.
- Contributes to the greater advising community at Weber by collaborating with other departments and/or colleagues.

The Outstanding Support Advisor Award recognizes individuals who work in an advising capacity and contribute to students’ educational development through effective support of academic advising through its programs, services, or resources.
Eligibility Requirements
- Nominees must provide wraparound student support services in an advising capacity.
- Nominees must have regular one-on-one meetings with students.

The Outstanding Faculty Academic Advisor Award recognizes individuals whose primary responsibility is teaching and who spend a portion of their time providing academic advisement to students.
Eligibility Requirements
- Nominees must spend at least 50% of their time on teaching.
- Nominees must serve as a faculty advisor.
Criteria

Sherrie Jensen Service to Academic Advising Award
The Sherrie Jensen Service to Academic Advising Award recognizes individuals who have made significant contributions to the profession of academic advising through leadership in the field of advising and demonstrate a commitment to the importance of academic advising at the institutional, state, regional, national or global levels. Nominees demonstrate substantial involvement with committees or professional organizations dedicated to the professional development of academic advisors and the advancement of the profession of academic advising.
Eligibility Requirements
- Any individual serving as a professional academic advisor at Weber State University with a minimum of five years of professional academic advising experience based on calendar year calculated from the time the nomination is due.
- Nominees must be current active members of committees or professional organizations dedicated to professional development of academic advisors and the advancement of the profession of Academic Advising (e.g., UAAC, UAA, NACADA, etc.).
- Nominees must hold (or have held) leadership positions with committees or professional organizations dedicated to the professional development of academic advisors and the advancement of the profession of Academic Advising (e.g., UAAC, UAA, NACADA, etc.).
Criteria
Professionalism & Advocacy
Describe how the nominee models professional excellence in their advising practice and promotes the value of academic advising.
Leadership & Service
Detail the nominee’s leadership roles within professional organizations and their service on committees dedicated to the advancement of academic advising (e.g., UAAC, UAA, NACADA, etc.).
Professional Development & Knowledge Sharing
Provide examples of how the nominee promotes or contributes to professional development at the institutional, state, regional, national, and/or global level that supports their growth and the growth of other advisors. Examples could include mentoring, training, presentations, workshops, research, or other advising-related content or activities.
