First-Year Summit 2024

WHY HAVE A FIRST-YEAR SUMMIT?

Following up on last year’s First-Year Summit, this year's summit offers attendees an opportunity to learn about and comment on new and proposed initiatives by colleges, departments, divisional programs, and offices to support first-year students' success.

WHEN AND WHERE IS THE SUMMIT?

Feb. 16, 2024, from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. in the Shepherd Union Ballrooms. Lunch provided.

WHO IS INVITED?

All students, faculty, administrators and students.

WHAT IS THE THEME OF THIS YEAR'S SUMMIT?

This year's Summit focuses on creating a "culture of the first year" by engaging in campus-wide discussions about new and revised proposals and initiatives addressing students' first-year academic achievement and success.

WHAT ARE THE GOALS OF THE SUMMIT?

  • Emphasize the importance of creating a first-year culture.
  • Share and elicit feedback on new and updated proposals and initiatives addressing the needs of first-year students
  • Present new data on first-year student academic achievement and success.

WHAT IS THE FORMAT OF THE SUMMIT?

The background for the theme and new data on first-year student academic achievement and success is available as a module on the Student Success Series Canvas Resource. Summit participants can join two discussion tables to learn about and comment on new and proposed first-year initiatives hosted by faculty, staff, and administrators.
