About Gwen Williams

An Ogden native and a proud Weber State alumna, Gwen Strandquist Williams was intricately involved with the university and its community during her lifetime.

Gwen was president of the Ogden Junior League and Symphony Guild. She was a member of the United Way, the Weber County Council on Aging, and the Utah Girl Scout Council. At Weber State, Gwen served two terms on the Institutional Council Board of Trustees from 1977 to 1985 and was vice-chair from 1979-1985. She was a member of the executive committee, the honorary degree committee, and the academic committee of the council, and she served on two presidential search committees. Gwen was also a Centennial Gift Campaign executive committee member who raised $16 million for Weber State.

Gwen and her husband began the Gwen S. and Harmon G. Williams Scholarship Endowment, a tribute to the Hemingway Faculty Development Trust, of which Gwen served as a trustee until 2002.

The Hemingway family honors Shirley Strandquist, Hemingway's sister, with the Gwen Williams Prize, recognizing extraordinary work by Weber State faculty.
