WSU’s Annual Outdoor Gear Sale And Swap to be held Oct. 14 and 15

OGDEN, Utah – Weber State University’s 15th Annual Outdoor Gear Sale and Swap will be held Oct. 14 and 15 at the Weber State Outdoor Program located at 4022 Taylor Ave. The sale will be by appointment only. Three appointment slots will be available every 15 minutes.

“A lot of this equipment is purchased through student fees and the revenue that we generate from the rental center. Putting that back into students' hands is kind of exciting,” said Daniel Turner, associate director of Campus Recreation.  “It’s a way that they can get into the activity or the sports a little bit more affordably.”

Due to COVID-19 safety measures, the event will be held at the Outdoor Program as opposed to the Bell Tower Plaza as in years past. All events are free and open to the public, but participants are required to reserve a time in advance at Employees will meet attendees at the curb, show them the gear they request, and take payment over the phone.

Sarah MacKay, marketing coordinator for Campus Recreation, noted that the community has taken a particular interest in outdoor activities and the gear swap this year because of the new safety measures.

“This year, there's been so much interest in getting outside. Throughout the summer we’ve had many questions about the gear sale,” said MacKay. “People are excited to be outside this year. Even though we can't have a big event, we can provide them gear that they might not be able to get otherwise.”

Examples of items for sale are:

  • Tents
  • Stand-up paddle boards
  • Tubes
  • Inflatable kayaks
  • Cross-country ski gear

This year's sale is a type of moving sale because the Outdoor Program will be moving into their new building, the Outdoor Adventure & Welcome Center, in January 2021. In addition to their regular items, the sale will include miscellaneous items discovered during building clean out.
