WSU Outdoor Program Hosts Premier Climbing Festival

OGDEN, Utah – The Weber State University Outdoor Program will host the 14th Ogden Climbing Festival (OCF14), Oct. 7-9, for the first time at the new Outdoor Adventure & Welcome Center on the Ogden campus.

As the premier climbing event in the region, OCF brings together climbers from all disciplines to introduce them to the best of Ogden’s climbing opportunities.

“The Ogden Climbing Festival is back," said Daniel Turner, Campus Recreation associate director. "In an effort to carry on the rich history of the Ogden Climbing Festival and bring our climbing community back together after a long pause, we have opted to host this year's event in the fall versus the spring.”

OCF boasts two days of events, including educational climbing clinics, stewardship and service opportunities, equipment demonstrations and competitions. The public is invited to hear world-renown Olympian Kyra Condie as keynote speaker on Oct. 9 at 7:30 p.m.

Condie, a Salt Lake City resident, has been climbing since she was 11 years old. As a teenager, she had spinal fusion surgery to correct a curvature of more than 70 degrees. It took her months to recover. After that, she became a bouldering World Cup finalist and U.S. Olympian.

“As climbing makes its debut on the Olympic stage, the Ogden Climbing Festival hopes to carry on its mission of providing an inclusive event for climbers of all abilities,” Turner said. “If you are a beginner or even an expert, there is something for you at this year's festival.”
