Community favorite, Weber State’s Storytelling Festival, returns for 29th year
OGDEN, Utah — Nationally and internationally acclaimed storytellers and local youth will take the stage at Weber State University’s 29th annual Storytelling Festival Feb. 24–26.
The three-day festival features various storytelling genres and free performances for the community, WSU students, faculty and staff to enjoy.
“The WSU Storytelling Festival is a magical and memorable event for all ages,” said Vincent Bates, festival chair and teacher education professor. “It offers a chance to get away from all the noise and busyness of our modern technological society and hear stories — true stories, folk tales and some straight-up lies — live and in person.”
This year’s festival will feature nationally recognized storytellers Bil Lepp, Lyn Ford, Antonio Sacre and Kim Weitkamp, along with 27 tellers from Utah and over 80 student performers.
Events will be held at multiple locations in Weber and Davis counties, including the WSU Ogden campus, Treehouse Children’s Museum and WSU Davis ballroom. Regional and featured tellers will also perform at local schools and libraries each afternoon to bring storytelling directly to the community.
New to the festival this year is Golden Tales, which are sessions designed specifically for senior citizens. Other events include Family Fun Night, featuring stories meant to entertain all ages, and a festival finale on the evening of Feb. 26.
All events are free, with the exception of the annual fundraising dinner at the Timbermine Steakhouse on Feb. 25.
A schedule of performances and activities is available on the festival website.
