Studying Graphic Design at Weber State

Weber State’s graphic design program trains creative students to push forward in the face of a difficult problems and challenging critiques to become professional graphic designers.

Graphic Design Highlights

Weber State’s KVAC Digital Media Lab is one of the best-equipped in the Intermountain West.

Weber State hosts an annual portfolio review event, where you can receive feedback on your portfolio of work from and network with WSU graduates who have become professional designers. Graphic design seniors also participate in the AIGA portfolio review in Salt Lake City, often returning with offers for employment or internships. 

Weber State’s graphic design program won the Core 77 Design Education Initiatives Award in 2011.

What You’ll Learn at Weber

Weber State’s graphic design program is built upon a solid foundation of visual fundamentals, typography and design history. 

Your studio projects will mix practical and experimental approaches to increase your self-discipline and problem-solving abilities, and you’ll master software including the Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop, Dreamweaver).

Web programming, 3D modeling and animation are also taught to advanced students.

What You Can Do After Weber

Graduates work as graphic designers for a wide range of employers that utilize visual designs to communicate with stakeholders, customers, clients and the general public.

You’ll find positions designing for forms of communication, such as:

  • Web/interactive media
  • Exhibitions
  • Brand management
  • Packaging
  • Publishing
  • Advertising

You also may choose to pursue a Master of Fine Arts degree.

Recent graduates from Weber State’s art programs have received average starting salaries between $30,000 and $40,000.
