Diagnostic Medical Sonography Highlights

Once you enter Weber State’s diagnostic medical sonography program, you can complete your degree within four semesters.

If you already work on a diagnostic medical sonography staff, you can earn your degree through independent study, which allows you to complete your degree online at your own pace.

Weber State’s Department of Radiologic Sciences was named America’s Best Radiologic Technologist Training Program in 2002 and 2012 by AuntMinnie.com, and is regularly among the top programs recognized nationally by professional peers.

Beyond the Classroom

As a diagnostic medical sonography major, you’ll gain practical experience through 24 hours of clinical education per week at a local healthcare facility.

You can also study abroad in China to learn about the country’s healthcare system and visit sites like the Great Wall, Forbidden City and Tiananmen Square.

As a diagnostic medical sonography major, you’ll graduate with skills for educating and caring for patients, along with technical and medical knowledge including:

  • Anatomy
  • Physiology and pathophysiology
  • Sonography principles and instrumentation
  • Medical ethics
  • Clinical assessment and evaluation
  • Scanning protocol and safety for diagnostic examination
  • Implementing protocol and evaluating diagnostic examination

You can focus your studies on one of three emphase areas of study:

  • Cardiac
  • Medical

What You Can Do After Weber

Our graduates go on to graduate studies in radiologic sciences or careers as sonographers, working in a wide variety of settings, such as:
