Student Safety is Our Priority
Maintaining a safe, healthy, and welcoming community is one of our highest priorities. From secure building access and comprehensive fire prevention, to routine safety inspections and emergency preparedness, we are committed to providing a home where students can live, learn, grow, and graduate.

Weber State Housing Staff
Resident Assistants (RAs)
Resident Assistants are trained student leaders who regularly walk through each housing facility to help maintain a safe, welcoming environment. During these rounds, RAs look for potential safety concerns, policy violations, facility issues, or students who may need assistance. When concerns arise, they work with professional housing staff and, when appropriate, university police to ensure situations are addressed promptly.
Beyond their safety responsibilities, RAs serve as mentors, community builders, and help connect students to other campus resources throughout the academic year.
Professional Staff On-Call
We also maintain a professional staff on-call system to provide support outside of regular business hours. Professional staff members live on campus and rotate on-call responsibilities to ensure that trained housing professionals are available to respond to emergencies, support RAs, and assist students whenever urgent situations arise.
This layered approach—combining Resident Assistants, live-in professional staff, and close collaboration with University Police—helps ensure that assistance is available whenever it is needed and that our residential communities remain safe, supportive places to live.
Secure Building Access
We use each student's Mobile Wildcard to manage secure access to residential communities. This system helps ensure that only authorized residents can enter designated spaces, allows us to monitor electronic access points when necessary, and enables us to quickly adjust or deactivate building access if a student loses their device or during an emergency.
Wildcat Village
Residents of Wildcat Village use their electronic University ID to access:
- Their residential building
- Their hallway
Residents also receive:
- A physical key for their apartment
- A physical key for their individual bedroom
University Village
Residents of University Village use their electronic University ID to access:
- Their residential building
- Their apartment
Residents also receive:
- A physical key for their individual bedroom
This layered approach provides both convenience and security while helping protect our residential communities. Because a mobile Wildcard is necessary for us to grant building access, students must fully set up their mobile wildcard at least 48 hours before move-in.
Fire Safety
Fire prevention is a shared responsibility and we maintain comprehensive fire safety standards to protect our community.
To reduce the risk of fire, the following items are not permitted inside housing buildings:
- Open flames, including candles
- Exposed heating elements
- E-Scooters or E-bikes
We understand that e-bikes and e-scooters are popular modes of transportation, so we offer secure outdoor storage units (with charging capabilities) to ensure students have a safe place to charge and store their devices. To request a charging locker, fill out the form below.
Fire Protection Systems
Both Wildcat Village and University Village are equipped with comprehensive fire safety systems that are regularly inspected and maintained under the direction of the University Fire Marshal. These systems are designed to help detect emergencies quickly and support a safe response should one occur.
Fire Drills
To help residents prepare for emergencies, fire drills are conducted in each residential community every semester. These drills familiarize students with evacuation procedures and reinforce the importance of responding promptly whenever a fire alarm sounds.
Health & Safety Inspections
Housing staff conduct routine Health & Safety Inspections throughout the academic year. During these inspections, staff check for potential fire hazards, prohibited items, and other safety concerns within student living spaces. These visits also provide an opportunity to connect with residents, answer questions, and support student well-being while helping maintain a safe community for everyone.
