Frequently Asked Questions | |||||||||||
What will a MAcc degree do for me?Earning a MAcc degree gives you better career opportunities in accounting and management and satisfies the education requirements of the Utah Certified Public Accountant Licensing Act for sitting for the CPA exam. Many of today's accountants are turning their MACC degrees into opportunities to work as vice presidents, CEOs and CFOs in today's business world. Placement of graduates in our master's program has approached 100 percent through the combined efforts of faculty, alumni and WSU's Career Services. What is unique about Weber State's program?We redesigned the MAcc program in response to new regulatory legislation and changes in the accounting profession. Our faculty conducted extensive focus groups with professionals in public, private and governmental accounting to determine the most relevant topic areas for the program. The revamped program prepares students for the intricacies of today's accounting world. Can I specialize?MAcc students choose one of two tracks: the tax track or the professional accounting track. The high-quality tax program is designed to provide you with essential knowledge and skills necessary to excel as a tax professional in a sophisticated marketplace. The professional accounting track gives you an in-depth foundation in all areas of accounting with the exception of tax. The tracks overlap, however, giving you background in all major areas of accounting, a necessity in today's marketplace. Am I eligible to apply?The MAcc program is designed primarily for students who have an undergraduate business degree with a major in accounting from an accredited university. However, if you do not have a business degree or major in accounting, you can still apply to the program. You will be required to complete some undergraduate leveling courses before applying. (See Admission Requirements) What are the GPA and GMAT requirements?Admission normally requires an undergraduate GPA of 3.0 and a score of 500 or higher on the GMAT. If you do not meet these requirements, you can still be admitted if the Admissions Committee determines there is sufficient promise of successful completion of the program. When should I apply?Applications are accepted any time prior to the start of fall, spring or summer semesters, but the earlier the better. How long does it take to complete the program?If you have a bachelor's degree in accounting, you can complete the program in two semesters of full-time study, but there is no time requirement for completion. You can work and still participate in the program. How much is tuition?Tuition and fees vary from year to year, but WSU remains one of the most affordable universities in the state and country. You can check the current tuition rates at http://departments.weber.edu/accounting/cashiers/0809tuition.htm Are scholarships available?We offer many scholarships and tuition waivers, which are generally awarded based on GMAT scores and undergraduate GPA. To apply for these scholarships and tuition waivers, submit your application for the following academic year by February 1. Is the program accredited?The program is fully accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business International (AACSB). When are courses taught?MAcc courses are conveniently taught in the afternoon and evening to better meet your schedule. Each course is normally offered only once a year, so it is important to meet with your adviser to develop a course plan that meets all of the requirements in time for graduation. There is no required sequence of courses, so you can enter the program at the beginning of any semester. |
