Two new leaders join Weber State’s Board of Trustees
OGDEN, Utah — Weber State University welcomed Alumni Association president Aimee Martinez Thoman and student body president Emmett Busby to the Board of Trustees on Aug. 27.
As the newest members of the 10-person governing board, Thoman and Busby will contribute to the trustees’ primary goals of establishing university policies, collaborating with university leadership on strategic direction, and strengthening ties between WSU and its community.
“Our trustees bring both deep experience and genuine passion to Weber State,” said Chris Mallett, WSU president. “Their leadership is an important part of staying true to our mission of transforming lives and communities. Together, we’ll continue delivering on our promises to students, families, and partners every day.”
Thoman is a Utah attorney, public servant, and longtime university volunteer. She earned her bachelor’s degree from WSU and Juris Doctorate from the J. Reuben Clark Law School at Brigham Young University.
Her legal career spans criminal prosecutorial work, discrimination and sexual harassment investigation, civil firm practice, and private practice. She serves as Investigative Counsel for the Utah Judicial Conduct Commission, as well as on the Executive Committee of the WSU Alumni Association Board of Directors.
Busby, the newly elected student body president, is pursuing a degree in political science. He previously served as the College of Science student senator, a WSU Admissions Ambassador, a user services assistant at Stewart Library, and a FAFSA coach.
The board remains under the leadership of Chair Keith Titus, president and CEO of MarketStar, and Vice Chair Lori Belnap Pehrson.
Eight of the university’s 10 trustees are appointed by Utah’s governor and approved by the Utah Senate. Appointees are eligible to serve two four-year terms. Thoman and Busby serve in non-appointed positions for one- and two-year terms respectively.
The Board of Trustees meeting minutes and meeting schedule are available on the Office of the President’s website.
