‘The People’s Shark’ is coming to Weber State

OGDEN, Utah — Daymond John, the self-made millionaire investor known as “The People’s Shark,” is coming to Weber State University Oct. 20 at 10–11:15 a.m. in the Val A. Browning Center’s Austad Auditorium.

This event is free and open to all. Audiences are invited to hear from John, an original cast member of the Emmy-winning series Shark Tank, as he shares about entrepreneurship, business, branding, and the strategies behind success.

“Utah has always been a place where people are willing to see an opportunity, take a risk, and build something of their own,” said Jeremy Oller, Goddard School of Business & Economics dean. “That entrepreneurial spirit is exactly why we’re so excited to bring Daymond John."

John will share his “5 SHARK Points for Success” — lessons drawn from his journey building the apparel brand FUBU and becoming one of the most recognizable investors in business. Other iconic investments in his portfolio include companies like Bombas, Sun Staches, and several businesses founded by Utahns.

His presentation serves as the keynote address for the Goddard School’s Vernon M. and MaRee Buehler Lecture Series, established to give the northern Utah community direct access to prominent leaders and innovators.

The Goddard School also provides year-round support through various business centers, offering entrepreneurship guidance, funding opportunities, tax education, and other resources for both Wildcats and community members.

“Our goal is to help people elevate what comes next, whether that means launching a business, growing an idea, or taking the next step in their career,” Oller said. “Daymond John’s story shows what can happen when creativity, grit, and determination meet opportunity, and I think that message will resonate with our students and with entrepreneurs throughout our community.”

Space is limited, so attendees are encouraged to RSVP on the event website.
