Weber State Day of Giving supports student needs, projects

OGDEN, Utah — Weber State University will hold its Day of Giving on Thursday and Friday, April 9–10. The event begins at noon on April 9 and concludes 24 hours later.

Last year’s Day of Giving — the university’s first — raised $94,252 for student programs, projects, athletic teams, and scholarship funds. Students walk along a sunlit, tree-lined campus pathway with autumn foliage, a clock tower in the background, and mountains rising behind it.

“We were thrilled with the outpouring of support last year,” said Amber Robson, WSU’s associate director of alumni relations. A total of 444 donors made gifts to support 66 different fundraising initiatives.

This year, a main focus for Day of Giving is WSU’s Basic Needs Center, which helps students who are dealing with issues like food insecurity, childcare challenges, and financial literacy, along with other unexpected emergencies.

In addition, Day of Giving is a chance for student groups, colleges, and departments to find funding for a wide range of projects. Examples this year include:

  • Expanding Stewart Library’s textbook lending service
  • No-cost camps for high school students to explore engineering programs
  • Sponsoring students to participate in study-abroad opportunities
  • Providing updated lab equipment and grants for student research
  • Subsidies to help more students go on outdoor adventure trips

In January, WSU announced the public launch of Amplify Weber State, a comprehensive campaign to raise $200 million for large-scale university initiatives. The projects and programs featured in Day of Giving tend to be focused on specific areas of interest.

“Donations can really make a difference in helping these projects succeed,” Robson said. “It’s a chance for friends, family, and community to support things that are important to students they know. And a little bit goes a long way in helping reach these goals.”

The university is reaching out to alumni and community members through email and social media to encourage them to donate, with a goal of reaching 1,889 donors to reflect Weber State’s founding 137 years ago.

While Day of Giving is April 9–10, WSU is accepting early donations. Visit the Day of Giving website to see a complete list of projects and make a gift to support students. For more information about Amplify Weber State, visit the campaign website.
