Comedian, storyteller Baratunde Thurston to speak at Weber State University

OGDEN, Utah — Weber State University’s Lindquist College of Arts & Humanities will host comedian, author, and storyteller Baratunde Thurston for a Browning Presents! event Jan. 26 at 7:30 p.m. in the Val A. Browning Center’s Allred Theater. The event is free and open to the public.

Thurston is an Emmy-nominated host and creator of the podcasts “Life with Machines” and “How to Citizen.” He also leads PBS’s “America Outdoors” and is the author of the bestselling memoir “How to Be Black.” Known for his sharp wit and thoughtful storytelling, Thurston takes audiences on a hilarious and insightful exploration of what it means to be human in a rapidly changing world.

In addition to the evening event, Thurston will meet with Weber State students earlier in the day, offering an opportunity for students to ask questions and gain insights into his work in media, comedy, and storytelling.

"Thurston challenges us to think deeply about our shifting place in the world,” said Deborah Uman, Lindquist College of Arts & Humanities dean. “I look forward to hearing his ideas about citizenship as a practice of active participation and about how we can navigate a world that is rapidly changing, both technologically and environmentally.”

This Browning Presents! event is part of WSU’s ongoing commitment to providing students and the community access to influential voices in media, culture, and the arts.
