Browning Presents! welcomes acclaimed author Tommy Orange to Weber State University
OGDEN, Utah — Weber State University’s Lindquist College of Arts & Humanities will host best-selling author Tommy Orange for a Browning Presents! event February 18 at 7:30 p.m. in the Val A. Browning Center’s Austad Auditorium. The event is free and open to the public.
Orange is the Pulitzer Prize-finalist author of There There and, his most recent novel, Wandering Stars. An enrolled member of the Cheyenne and Arapaho Tribes of Oklahoma, Orange is widely recognized for engaging storytelling that examines contemporary Native American identity, history, and belonging.
The New York Times Book Review praised Orange as “a powerful voice exploring urban Native American identity, intergenerational trauma, and systemic struggles with immense skill.” His most recent novel, Wandering Stars, is a New York Times bestseller.
Orange’s work has earned numerous honors, including the American Book Award and the MacArthur Foundation’s “genius grant.” His writing continues to shape conversations about Indigenous people’s experience in America.
“Tommy Orange’s novels are among the most riveting and moving books I’ve read in recent years,” said Deborah Uman, Lindquist College of Arts & Humanities dean. “I’m especially excited that our students are reading his work in their English classes and will have the opportunity to meet him and learn more about his approach to storytelling.”
The event is part of Weber State’s Browning Presents! series, which brings influential writers, artists, and thinkers to campus to engage the community in timely cultural conversations.
Attendees are encouraged to RSVP in advance to assist with event planning.
