Lindquist family brings summer sights, sounds back to Weber State
OGDEN, Utah — On July 13, the Lindquist Family Symphony Pops Concert and Fireworks will return to Weber State University for a 46th year.
A beloved summer tradition for local families, the free event is proudly carried on by John E. Lindquist, president of Lindquist Mortuaries and Cemeteries in Ogden, whose family launched the event in 1978.
The New American Philharmonic will serenade crowds seated near Ada Lindquist Plaza, the scenic pond area nestled at the heart of WSU’s Ogden campus.
The hour-long concert begins at 9 p.m. and will highlight Tchaikovsky’s “1812 Overture,” accompanied by a battery of 16 cannons provided by the Cannoneers of the Wasatch.
Once the skies darken, around 10 p.m., spectators can enjoy one of Utah’s largest fireworks displays, set to live symphony music.
“Thanks to the Lindquist family, this is something our community looks forward to year after year,” said WSU President Brad Mortensen. “Listening to that patriotic music, watching those fireworks flash across the mountainside, it has all become a special part of Ogden and Weber State history. ”
Refreshments will be available via food trucks and other vendors. Restrooms, first aid, and water stations will be clearly marked, and maps will be made available in advance on the event website.
Parking near campus is available, but limited. Interior campus roads and parking lots will close starting at 9 a.m. on July 12.
Families are welcome to bring blankets and chairs, but space saving will not be permitted until after 6 p.m. on July 12 to protect campus grounds. Items placed on the lawn before that time will be removed. Tarps, stakes, and tent pegs are not allowed and will also be removed. No personal fireworks or pets are permitted, with the exception of service animals. Guests are also not allowed to distribute flyers or any other advertisements.
Following the event, visitors are asked to tidy up their area.
