Weber State’s free online tool can help community with estate planning
OGDEN, Utah — Weber State University has launched a new tool to make estate planning more affordable and accessible for the community.
The free Wills Planner tool is available for anyone to use through Weber State’s planned giving platform, helping users to create their will.
Angie Anderson, WSU development coordinator, said filing a will can help families avoid the complicated court process of settling an estate when no will is involved.
“We all hate having to think about it, but we want our families to be taken care of,” Anderson said. “So we want to give everybody the opportunity to put some thought into how they want their legacies to be remembered.”
Users have the option to name Weber State as a beneficiary in the document, but Anderson stressed that there was no obligation to do so.
Should users run into any issues, they can contact WSU’s Development Office for assistance. The office works with an experienced advisory council made up of financial advisors, attorneys, and other experts.
“We’re really focused on empowering people to take that first step to plan for their future and their families,” Anderson said. “Weber wants to make that as easy as possible.”
She said they also plan to roll out key updates this month that allow for attorneys to log in and see the site directly, along with improved user accessibility.
