Weber State grad's art lands on Clearfield’s latest public art display
OGDEN, Utah — As a muralist and furniture upcycler, Weber State University graduate Brooke Facer’s artwork can be found on walls and in homes throughout the country.
She enjoys using creative canvases — building exteriors, chairs, dressers or other household furniture — to showcase her signature vibrant style.
Facer recently worked on a series of jet statues that touched down in Clearfield, Utah. She was one of three local artists selected to design and paint the sculptures, which are part of Clearfield’s rebranding as “Utah’s Military City.”
She worked on three of the nine jets, including one sponsored by Weber State, which she adorned with a purple camo pattern and Wildcat claw marks.
“I think it turned out great,” Facer said. “My goal was to create something that symbolizes the pride that students and alumni have in our university.”
Facer said the project felt close to her heart. She’s a Weber State alum, military spouse and Davis County resident: “I have so many personal connections to this.”
The jet, an F-35 measuring about 4 feet by 3 feet, is located year-round on State Street outside of the Clearfield Aquatic & Fitness Center.
Facer graduated summa cum laude with a communication degree from WSU in 2017. She began working in marketing after graduation and often spent her spare time thrifting, painting or refurbishing furniture.
Facer’s hobby soon grew into her own small business, called Rummage and Redeem, and she began taking on more projects.
“My communication degree, and specifically my classes in art, graphic design, video editing, technical writing and marketing, helped me launch a successful business,” Facer said. “I credit much of my artistic success to having an educational background in marketing and communication.”
Her artistry has brought her to Aruba to paint a starfish mural on a building and Seattle to adorn the walls of a vacation rental with a Vincent van Gogh “The Starry Night” scene.
She’s also spent thousands of hours in her garage, giving new life to furniture pieces by restoring or refinishing them, and adding embellishments such as tropical birds, florals and other intricately painted designs.
Facer does all this while being a mom to her young son and working as a digital marketing specialist at a behavioral health hospital.
