Program Services

Upward Bound staff provides advising, tutoring, community service opportunities, field trips, cultural activities, and more. We'll help you:

  • Complete high school
  • Explore career options
  • Explore colleges and majors
  • Score well on college entrance tests
  • Secure grants and scholarships for college
  • Complete the college admissions process
  • Expand your horizons

Eligibility Requirements

Students who meet all of the following criteria are encouraged to apply:

  • In grade 9-12;
    • Note: Students usually enter Upward Bound in grade 9 or 10 and continue through the duration of high school. Therefore, the 11th and 12th grade cohorts are usually full.
  • Attend Ben Lomond, Ogden, or Clearfield High School, or a junior high that feeds into one of these schools;
  • Neither parent has earned a bachelor's degree and/or family is low-income according to federal guidelines.
    • Note: Priority is given to applicants who are both first-generation college and low-income.

Program Requirements

Upward Bound students must have the potential to be successful in college, which includes maintaining a good GPA, school attendance and citizenship, and average or above-average placement test scores. To remain in the program students must meet the following requirements:

  • Maintain a 2.5 GPA minimum;
  • Maintain good school attendance and citizenship;
  • Participate in Upward Bound services and program activities including: after-school study hall (when available), Saturday College Prep, individual academic counseling sessions, cultural activities, and community service;
  • Complete the six-week Summer Residential Academic Program each year.

Please note: The application consists of 3 parts: Student Information, Parent/Guardian Income and Education Verification, and Release of Student Records and Information. The application must be completed in one sitting - you cannot save your work and come back later.
