LEARNING achievement indicator. Students achieve the learning goals of Major programs

Rationale for this indicator as a valid measure of achievement

This is one of two achievement indicators for the LEARNING core theme about student SUCCESS. The objective is that

Students learn to succeed as educated persons and professionals. This indicator focuses on achieving the goals of the Major programs while the other focuses on achieving the goals of the General Education program.

Each WSU Major has established learning objectives to prepare students to succeed within that discipline. Achievement of these objectives, as measured by performance on standardized exams and local assessments, measures the effectiveness of the Major programs in facilitating student learning.

Acceptable achievement thresholds for metrics assessing this indicator are

  • Courses in WSU programs will define and publish learning outcomes.

  • Students evidence attainment of program learning goals through performance as documented by departmental assessment activities. The results of annual, program assessment are available for review.
