Round River Conservation Studies

Program Details

The Darhad Valley in Mongolia and the Taku Tlingit First Nation land in British Columbia both offer the opportunity to support local communities and governing agencies in the protection and conservation of biodiversity. These program locations conduct ongoing conservation initiatives in which our students can workcollaboratively with our local partners to complete projects, analyze data, and report findings. Both locations welcome the support of Round River Conservation Studies and embrace the interactions with our student cohorts.

Requirements:

  • Be over the age of 18.

Destination: Taku River, B.C. or Darhad Valley, Mongolia

June 26 - August 9, 2024

Cost

Cost: $12,620

Program is expected to be paid in full prior to departure 

Deposit: $200

Deposit is due 72 hours after registration. If not paid in that timeframe, you may be dropped from your trip.

Payments can now be made online! Visit this website for instructions on how to pay your deposit and future payments online. Charges should show on your account within 24-48 hours after registration. If you want to pay with cash or check, please pay at the Hurst Center for Lifelong Learning.

Includes: Weber purchased travel insurance, group gear, room and board, round trip travel to program location, excursions, and all meals.

Not included: any unscheduled travel, incidentals, any personal gear, and excess baggage costs

June 28-30: Orientation, Safety and Policy Review, day trips and academics

July 1-3: Academics and field prep
July 4-10: Conservation project #1 
July 11-12: Academics and rest days

July 13-16: Conservation project #2

July 17- 20: Academics and rest days

July 21-24: Conservation project #3
July 25-29: Conservation project #4
July 30-Aug 2: Academics and rest days

August 3-8: Final exams and project write-up

August 9: Student departure

Academic Courses

Students who participate in this study abroad program will be able to register for up to nine (9) semester credits through Weber State University in: 

  • Zoology 4700 Topics in Zoology: Regional Natural History (3 credits)
  • Zoology 4700 Topics in Zoology: Applied Conservation Biology (3 credits)
  • Zoology 4950 Field Zoology: Introduction to Biological Field Methods (3 credits)

Trip Cancellations

If Weber State cancels a trip for any reason, all participants will be refunded 100% of funds paid to the school. If a participant withdraws from the program for any reason, they are subject to the refund policy found on the first page of the application.  Deposits are always non-refundable, unless the program is canceled by Weber State.  No refunds will be issued 30 days prior to program start date. 

Refunds will NOT be given to students due to COVID-19 concerns. Before programs were canceled in 2020, every student was given the option to withdraw from programs without penalty due to COVID-19. This year students are applying, cognizant of the pandemic. Weber State will not intentionally place students into high risk situations. We will work together with Program Leaders and Departments on canceling should the destination demonstrate increased risks, be they from COVID or any other concern. As such, students must abide by the standard refund policy.
