Weber State University Department of Professional Sales Hosts Annual SDR Internal Sales Competition

OGDEN – The Department of Professional Sales at Weber State University hosted its annual Sales Development Representative (SDR) internal sales competition on Thursday, October 23. The event, designed to simulate a real-world sales role many graduates enter, saw 70 Professional Sales majors compete for top honors.18 students were selected as winners and shared a total of $1,500 in prize money.

"This was my first SDR competition, but with the skills I've been learning in my sales classes, it was stress free and I felt super good about how it went" said Ashton Heitz, a sophomore Professional Sales major from Pleasant View. Heitz was named one of the
18 competition winners.

 
Professor Blake Nielson, a key organizer of the event, praised the students' performance and the invaluable support from the program's partners. “Internal sales competitions are a highlight of our academic year. Watching students apply their classroom knowledge with such confidence and skill is incredibly rewarding,” said Nielson. “We are so fortunate for the consistent support from our corporate partners, which makes this event possible every year.”

 
This was the first year partners from the Alan E. Hall Sales Center acted as the roleplayers, providing both a level of realism, and a fantastic opportunity for students to network and connect with them as potential future employers. This  shift to industry professional roleplayers allowed students to receive direct feedback from those actively working in the field, creating a bridge between academic theory and current industry expectations.

 
With the fall competition complete, students in the Department of Professional Sales are already turning their focus to the next internal sales competition, which will be held in the spring of 2026 and sponsored by Enterprise Rentals, a premier corporate partner of the Alan E. Hall Sales Center.
